Growing a Healthy Next Generation. One seed at a time.
The health of our next generation begins today. One seed at a time. One salad at a time.
"It takes a village to raise a child.” It’s a proverb we think a lot about here at Whole Kids Foundation. Our mission to improve children’s nutrition and wellness only becomes a reality when we successfully partner with like-minded individuals, corporate and community partners and other nonprofits.
This September’s Growing Healthy Kids campaign goal is to raise $3.4 million. This significant sum will propel our work forward to have an even greater impact for local schools: Allowing us to fund 500 edible learning gardens, 400 salad bars, 100 new educational bee programs and support healthy teacher and staff programs.
There’s the potential to impact 575,000 more children!
These opportunities are made possible in big part thanks to our generous supporters like our 2019 Growing Healthy Kids campaign supplier partners, who are truly invested in supporting children’s nutrition and wellness.
Our Lead Sponsors include Annie’s, Honest Kids, Horizon Organic, Rainier Fruit, Spindrift, Stonyfield Organic and Tom’s of Maine.
Our Core Sponsors include Applegate, Back to Nature, Barbara’s Bakery, Clif Kid, Happy Family, Hippeas, KIND Snacks, Larabar, Once Upon a Farm, Orgain, Organic Valley and Plum Organics.
Because Whole Foods Market covers all of our operational costs, 100 percent of every dollar provided by our “village” directly supports our nutrition and wellness programs for kids.
And Whole Foods Market’s support extends even further. Since 2013, Team Members have been able to directly contribute a percentage of each paycheck to Whole Kids Foundation and many donate to our annual campaigns, too. Since we began in 2011, Team Members from across the US, Canada and the UK have donated more than $1.7 million to Whole Kids Foundation.
Recently Team Members donated to our 2019 Give Bees a Chance campaign, and here’s what a few said about their support:
“As a Whole Foods Market Team Member, I am passionate about the Whole Kids Foundation mission, especially saving the bees! The future of food depends on our pollinators!”
“As a Whole Foods Market Team Member, I have always believed in and supported our Whole Kids Foundation. And now to celebrate National Pollinator Month, I want to contribute a little more to help bring 50 new educational beehives to schools and nonprofits across the nation, especially here in San Antonio, TX.”
“I was so excited when my Kindergartener came home the other day talking about bees. The message is getting out there. Let's keep it going! I donate to the Whole Kids Foundation on every paycheck.”
Thanks to all of our supporters, we’ve been able to introduce healthy habits and fuel change in thousands of schools for millions of children. And it’s these kids who say it best:
“Before I came to this school I didn't eat anything, no fruits or vegetables. Now that I've come to the garden, I'll try anything.”
"I love that what we grow in the garden, we eat in the cafeteria!"
“I like the Garden Club because I get to learn about gardening then come home and teach my family about it.”
"Memphis is a food desert and lacks food justice. I want to change that with this garden so that future generations have access to what I did not have."
