Whole Kids is dedicated to improving children’s health and wellness through their nutrition. Whole Kids is a project of Whole Foods Market Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas.

Our Mission

We support schools and inspire families to improve children’s nutrition and wellness. Given the right opportunities, kids will get excited about fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and other nutritious whole foods.

Our Goals

  • Help kids learn to love fresh, nutritious, whole foods
  • Increase access to and consumption of these foods in schools
  • Inspire families to prepare and share these foods at home
  • Encourage community action that supports healthier kids
  • Create support tools for educators, who play a vital role in modeling and teaching healthy choices

Whole Foods Market has long had a concern about the growing rate of obesity in America and about children's obesity in particular.

2009

The company began working to improve the food children eat in schools through a partnership with the Food, Family, Farming Foundation and Chef Ann Cooper, the Renegade Lunch Lady. Whole Foods Market and its shoppers donated more than $700,000 to fund The Lunch Box, a free online resource that helps schools improve the nutritional value offered in their lunch programs.

2010

They partnered again to raise funds to grant more than 500 salad bars to schools across the nation. Whole Foods Market pledged $1 million to fund additional salad bars and was a founding partner in the Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative.

2011

Whole Kids Foundation was officially established as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.

Yes. Whole Kids is a project of Whole Foods Market Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas.
 

Whole Foods Market funds all operating costs for Whole Kids. Our programs are funded by a variety of sources, including Whole Foods Market shoppers, suppliers, Team Members and other private and corporate partners.
 

Whole Kids focuses its work in the countries where Whole Foods Market has stores. This currently includes the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
 

Whole Foods Market has a wide variety of nutritional experts that guide its healthy eating philosophy. Whole Kids Foundation relies on this expertise, in addition to building relationships with other health and nutrition experts, including:

Whole Kids maintains a narrow focus on our existing grant programs for schools, which include school gardens, salad bars, bee grants and healthy teachers. At this time we are not funding grants for other purposes. We do share information about other programs via our e-newsletter and social media channels. Please feel free to contact us.
 

All of our program funding supports schools directly. We are not currently able to provide cash or in-kind sponsorship to events or conferences. We are happy to consider sharing information about events with our audiences. Please feel free to contact us.
