If schools in remote, agriculturally challenged Anchorage can give kids access to more fresh veggies and fruits, any school can! Eleven elementary schools in the Anchorage School District have received new salad bars through the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools grant program.
Due to climate, the growing season for local fruits and vegetables is short. Due to distance, the supply of fresh produce obtained from outside the state is also limited. Salad bars in schools have already proven to be efficient, cost-effective tools in Anchorage for providing students with more fresh and healthy options daily. The district will be able to reach hundreds more children with the new salad bars.
